Samsung Launches Galaxy S23 FE: Affordable Option with Improved Cameras

Samsung has introduced the Galaxy S23 FE, succeeding last year’s S21 FE and notably skipping the S22 FE. While it doesn’t reach the level of Samsung’s flagship S23 models or even the S22+, it promises to offer an affordable alternative.

Design and Display:
The device features a 6.4″ flat Dynamic AMOLED 2X display with 1080p resolution and a variable 60-120Hz refresh rate, designed to conserve battery life. Compared to its predecessor, the S23 FE is larger and slightly heavier, weighing 209g. It incorporates sustainable materials in its construction, including pre-consumer aluminum, glass, and post-consumer plastic sourced from items like discarded fishing nets, water barrels, and PET bottles. It also boasts IP68 water and dustproofing.

Internals and Software:
Samsung has been relatively discreet about the chipset, mentioning “Advanced 4nm Processing.” Depending on your location, the device may be powered by either the Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 or the Exynos 2200. Despite not featuring Samsung’s latest dedicated “for Galaxy” chips, it represents a notable upgrade over the Snapdragon 888/Exynos 2100 found in the S21 FE. The base configuration offers 8 GB of RAM, eliminating the previous 6 GB option. Storage options include 128 GB or 256 GB, with no expansion slot available.

Cameras:
The camera setup includes a 50MP sensor, a significant improvement over the previous 12MP sensor. However, it’s important to note that while this is an upgrade, the S23 FE falls short of the S23 and S22 models, particularly in terms of its lower-resolution ultrawide (10MP, 123°) and telephoto (8MP, 3x) cameras. Surprisingly, the selfie camera has dropped to a 10MP resolution after two generations of featuring 32MP sensors in the FE models.

Battery and Pricing:
Despite its slightly bulkier design, the S23 FE retains the same 4,500 mAh battery capacity as its predecessor. It supports 25W wired charging, providing a 0-50% charge in just 30 minutes, and also offers wireless charging.

Pricing and availability details are yet to be revealed.
